In possession of a foreign professional certificate and looking to perform temporary work in the Netherlands?

You can apply for permission to qualify for Dutch certification via the recognition procedure.

Application for recognition of professional qualifications

Should DNV be included in your professional group’s portfolio, recognition application can be filed for professional qualifications, in order to perform this work in the Netherlands, only under the stipulation that training has been successfully completed within the last 5 years. In order to determine applicability for a Dutch certificate, please submit the following documents to vakbekwaamheid@dnvgl.com:
  • Certified copy of the foreign degree or certificate of competence
  • Proof of professional experience showing the duration of the professional experience as well as the parts and content that make up the professional activities
  • A statement that the holder has not been prohibited from practicing his profession (certificate of good standing)
  • Description of the relevant study program and the corresponding final and test terms
  • Proof of language proficiency (for asbestos you must speak Dutch)
Confirmation of receipt will be provided within one month, indicating whether application has been successfully submitted or requesting additional documents or information, as applicable. This may include an aptitude test, in which case a referral will be provided to an examination institution, the expenses of which are the responsibility of the applicant.  DNV charges € 150 for the recognition application process. In addition, the relevant management foundation expenses are to be compensated by the applicant.

Reporting the provision of temporary / incidental services

A certificate holder wising to perform temporary work in the NL, can request permission by email (vakbekwaamheid@dnvgl.com). Commencement of work may ensue upon certificate issuing, indicating approval. In order to determine eligibility, please provide the following: 

  • Copy of proof of identity
  • Certified copy of the foreign degree or certificate of competence
  • Proof of professional experience showing the duration of the professional experience, as well as the parts and content that make up the professional activities
  • A statement that the holder has not been banned from practicing professionally (certificate of good standing)
  • Description of the relevant study program and the corresponding final and test terms
  • Proof of language proficiency (for asbestos you must speak Dutch)
  • Comparison of final and test terms according to the excel sheet per scheme

Should it be required, additional documents or information, as applicable may be requested. Automatic recognition

If you are in possession of a foreign certificate for a professional group and you also want to obtain the Dutch certificate for this, you can apply for approval to be eligible for a Dutch registration or certification by means of a recognition procedure.
